The Mind-Body Connection
Counseling/Therapy is the discipline within which mental and physical health intersect. In practice, the psychotherapeutic approach evaluates the presentation of certain medical conditions within the context of the mind and the body’s inherently intertwined relationship—considering that the dysfunction of one system influences the disruption of another.
The toll of managing certain medical conditions can induce heightened levels of anxiety and depression. Conversely, chronic stress and emotional strain can manifest in physical ways, such as fatigue, aches, pains, indigestion, headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure, dizziness and more. In such cases, the alleviation of physical symptoms cannot occur without addressing the role that mental health plays in the presentation of psychosomatic conditions and disorders.
